More than 100,000 tuberculosis (TB) cases were recorded in Metro Manila as of February this year, the Department of Health (DOH) said Sunday.

Citing data from the Epidemiology Bureau’s Integrated Tuberculosis Information System, the DOH said TB cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) reached 101,807 as of February 16.

The figure prompted the agency to further intensify its campaign for early detection, prompt treatment, and prevention of the disease.

Among the symptoms to watch out for are a cough lasting two weeks or more, chest pain, fever, weakness, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss.

The DOH urged individuals experiencing these symptoms to seek consultation at the nearest health center.

The department also said more than 3.1 million individuals in Metro Manila underwent TB screening in 2025, noting that the disease is treatable, especially when detected early.

It added that measures are in place to prevent the progression to active TB.

“Isinusulong ang pagbibigay ng TB Preventive Treatment lalo na sa mga high-risk groups tulad ng mga batang close contacts at iba pang vulnerable populations," the DOH said.

"Layunin nito na maiwasan ang pag-develop ng active TB at maputol ang transmission chain sa komunidad,” it added.
