Authorities on Tuesday arrested the alleged shooter in the death of a former close-in security escort of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

According to the Manila Public Information Office, the 27-year-old suspect was arrested around 5 a.m. inside a lodging house in San Pedro, Laguna, after the police launched a manhunt operation.

The alleged shooter was earlier identified by another suspect, who surrendered on March 17.

Authorities located the shooter by backtracking CCTV footage and reported sightings, monitoring him in several locations that included Nueva Ecija; Cabanatuan; Arayat in Pampanga; Bulacan; and Rizal.

The shooter was presented to the public earlier today, where he admitted to shooting the victim by firing twice during the robbery incident in Tondo, Manila.

He is facing robbery charges, and charges for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act will also be filed.

Authorities also nabbed a 23-year-old suspect for obstruction of justice for allegedly harboring the suspect while he was on the run.

Police said they recovered a .40 caliber firearm with a loaded magazine from the shooter during his arrest.

The firearm was believed to have been used in the victim’s killing.

A retired policeman, victim George Capistrano was gunned down by two men aboard a motorcycle in Barangay 134 in Balut, Tondo.

CCTV footage showed that the two suspects followed Capistrano, who was also on a motorcycle, before they shot him.

The victim tried to fight back but fell after being shot twice.

According to witnesses, the suspects took the victim’s jewelry before fleeing. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
