Authorities seized P38.7 million worth of illegal drugs concealed in unclaimed parcels in Pasay City.

According to Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized almost 5,700 grams of suspected shabu in various warehouses in NAIA Complex.

These were discovered after the BOC’s X-ray detected the illegal substances inside abandoned parcels arriving from abroad.

“There were parcels that arrived from Africa, Canada, and Pakistan containing shabu—which is illegal, of course. It was concealed; the declarations were for medical equipment, jackets, and metal rolls. That's where the shabu was hidden,” said BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno.

Authorities are trying to contact the sender of the parcels.

“We are contacting the sender, but of course, they are in hiding, so we decided it was best to show this to the public,” said Nepomuceno.

The seized drugs were turned over to PDEA for further investigation and proper disposal.

From January to March 29, nearly P2 billion worth of illegal drugs have been seized by Customs nationwide. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA News
