Cardinal Advincula to honor faith formators on Holy Thursday
On Maundy Thursday, twelve people who help spread teachings about God and the Catholic faith will be the guests of Manila Archbishop Jose F. Cardinal Advincula in the traditional "washing of the feet."
The Mass of the Last Supper, which includes the reenactment of Jesus washing the feet of the apostles will be held in the Manila Cathedral on Holy Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 5 p.m.
In a social media post, the Manila archdiocese announced that Cardinal Advincula will "wash the feet of twelve special people called “Formators of the Word and Sacraments.”
"These are people who help us learn about God and the important parts of our faith," the archdiocese said, adding that the ritual "reminds us how important it is to serve others and be humble in the Church."
The selection is connected to the Manila Archdiocesan Ecclesial Assembly (MAEA) that was held in February 2026.
"This act of washing of the feet comes from what Jesus did at the Last Supper. It teaches us about being humble, helping others, and loving one another," the archdiocese said.
The Cardinal will wash the feet of the following people:
- Priest – Fr. Carlo Magno Marcelo
- Nun – Sr. Leysis Navarro, MSP
- Lector – Ms. Ma. Rosalina Flores
- Adult Catechist – Mr. Jomer Viteno
- Youth Catechist – Ms. Glaiza Maria Magna
