Immigration nabs Korean tied to P140-M investment scam at NAIA
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a Korean fugitive being linked to a P140 million investment scam at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
According to a statement Wednesday, suspect Kim Kwangsin attempted to board a flight to Taipei on March 28 when he was flagged for primary inspection for being a subject of an Interpol Red Notice.
BI said Kim is facing charges for fraud and participation in a criminal organization. He was allegedly part of a stock investment scam syndicate in Cambodia from August 2024 to January 2025.
The suspect allegedly posed as a stock investment manager, operating with the group that was able to defraud at least 57 victims of more than KRW3.5 billion (approximately P140.5 million).
“Let this be clear: the Philippines will not serve as a sanctuary for fugitives… Through strong coordination with Interpol and heightened vigilance at our borders, we will ensure that individuals involved in transnational crimes are intercepted and brought to justice,” said BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado.
