PNP: Over 48K violators apprehended in 3-day Metro Manila Safer Cities drive

More than 48,000 violators were apprehended during the first three days of Safer Cities Initiative operations in Metro Manila, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday.

In a statement, the PNP said a total of 48,257 violators were recorded from April 6 to April 8 based on data from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

The PNP said 7,389 violators were fined, 403 were charged, while 15,584 were warned and released.

Drinking and smoking in public places were the most common violations with 7,300 apprehensions, according to the PNP.

This was followed by individuals roaming without shirts, curfew violations involving minors, and videoke or karaoke beyond allowed hours.

The Southern Police District (SPD) recorded the highest number of apprehensions with 9,503 violators.

“Patuloy lang ang ating pagpapaalala at pagpapatupad ng mga ordinansa. Nakikita natin na mas nagiging maayos ang paligid kapag may presensya ang pulis,” PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.

(We continue to remind and enforce ordinances. We see that the environment becomes more orderly when the police are present.)

“Makiisa po tayo—sumunod sa simpleng alituntunin, iwasan ang paglabag, at igalang ang kapwa. Maliit na bagay pero malaking tulong sa kaayusan,” he added.

(Let’s unite—follow simple rules, avoid violations, and respect others. Small things but a big help in order.)

On Monday, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced stricter implementation of the ban on alcohol and gambling in public areas and other measures.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the Safer Cities program will initially be piloted in Metro Manila before expanding to other major urban centers nationwide. — RSJ, GMA News
