The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Thursday said maximum tolerance is being observed in the intensified enforcement of local ordinances under the Safer Cities Initiative.

NCRPO chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin said police personnel have been directed to strictly follow operational procedures while ensuring that citizens' rights are respected during operations.

“Mahigpit po nating ipinagbibilin sa ating kapulisan na lahat ng operations should be, should be in accordance with the police operational procedure,” Aberin said during a Balitanghali interview.

(We strictly instruct our personnel that all operations should be in accordance with the police operational procedure.)

“Nirerespeto ‘yung human rights po ng ating mga kababayan and at the same time, we always observe maximum tolerance,” he added.

He added authorities are using body-worn cameras, while barangay officials are also documenting operations to promote transparency and accountability.

The NCRPO chief also encouraged the public to report any alleged abuses so administrative complaints may be filed against the erring personnel.

Aberin maintained that no abuse has been observed so far in the Safer Cities operations.

On Monday, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced stricter implementation of the ban on alcohol and gambling in public areas and other measures.

Over 48,000 violators were apprehended during the first three days of Safer Cities Initiative operations in Metro Manila, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the Safer Cities program will initially be piloted in Metro Manila before expanding to other major urban centers nationwide. —RF, GMA News
