How to safeguard vehicles from thieves posing as renters
As vacation season begins, the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) reminded the public to be cautious when thieves posing as renters try to rent their vehicles.
According to Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report on “24 Oras” on Thursday, PNP-HPG Police Brigadier General Rommel Batangan advised the public not to fall for the persuasion of their customers.
“Alarma na kayo pag ang nagre-renta, hindi na ma-contact, at ang mga sasakyan pag namo-monitor ng GPS, mas mainam,” Batnagan said.
(Be alarmed if you cannot contact your renter, and it is better if you can monitor your vehicle through a GPS.)
Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant Nadame Malang, PNP-HPG chief public information officer, said the customer should present their IDs before renting the vehicle.
The owner should also know their customer’s address.
PNP-HPG made the reminders after arresting a couple who were involved in the Rentangay modus in San Fernando, Pampanga, as they were selling a vehicle without appropriate documents.
The couple targeted passenger vans used for outings, and rented them out for two to three days to about a week.— Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA News
