Navotas landfill still burning after 20 hours
The Navotas Sanitary Landfill remained on fire 20 hours after it caught fire on Friday evening.
According to a report on "24 Oras Weekend" on Saturday, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said firefighters could not approach the site by boat due to low tide.
Firefighters had to deploy fireboats, as the landfill is located on an island.
The Philippine Air Force has joined the response, dispatching helicopters to conduct aerial water drops.
The BFP assured the public that the fire is far from residential areas.
The Navotas Sanitary Landfill has been non-operational since August 2025 and was last used as a dumping site for Metro Manila’s garbage.
