Victim rescued, 4 suspects wounded in anti-kidnapping ops in Parañaque
Four suspects were shot while a 78-year-old kidnapping victim was rescued during an anti-kidnapping operation along Macapagal Boulevard in Parañaque City on Wednesday evening.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Police Major General Anthony Aberin confirmed to GMA News that the Philippine National Police (PNP) – Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) conducted an operation in the area.
According to Jhomer Apresto’s report in “State of the Nation,” witnesses said the incident happened at past 7 p.m. along Macapagal Boulevard.
Four individuals aboard a sports utility vehicle (SUV) sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Their identities and current conditions are unknown as of this posting.
Four lanes of Macapagal Avenue are still cordoned off as crime scene investigators process the area.
Several attendants from a gas station across the street said they were caught off guard and immediately dropped to the ground to avoid getting hit by stray bullets.
The PNP said they rescued a 78-year-old kidnapping victim during the operation.
The suspects fought back against authorities, leading to the shootout.
“During the rescue, the suspects engaged responding personnel, resulting in an armed encounter. Four of the suspected kidnappers sustained injuries and were immediately brought to the nearest hospital for proper medical attention,” the PNP said in a statement.
A police officer was also wounded in the shootout.
“The PNP emphasizes that the primary objective of the operation was the safe recovery of the victim, which was successfully achieved through measured and appropriate police response,” the statement said.
“Follow-up and hot pursuit operations are ongoing to identify, locate, and apprehend the remaining individuals involved,” the PNP added. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/JMA, GMA News
