The driver of a police mobile involved in a road crash that killed five persons under police custody (PUPCs) in Payatas, Quezon City has been arrested.

In a statement on Saturday, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said the driver was apprehended at the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) at around 12 p.m.

Authorities said the driver underwent an Alcohol Breath Analyzer (ABA) test, which yielded negative results.

He is now undergoing inquest proceedings and faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.

“We assure the public that due process will be strictly observed and that accountability will be upheld," said QCPD chief Police Brigadier General Andy Glenn Silverio.

"At the same time, we continue to closely monitor the condition of those injured and extend necessary assistance to all affected individuals,” he added.

Meanwhile, one PUPC remains under close medical monitoring at the Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH) after undergoing a series of surgical procedures. The patient is now in stable condition.
