A man was killed after a shootout with police during a follow-up operation in Pasay City on Tuesday night, according to a report of GMA News’ Bam Alegre on Unang Balita on Wednesday.

The Pasay City Police said the suspect was declared dead on arrival at a hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to the right chest.

Authorities said the operation stemmed from an earlier incident in Barangay 61, where the man allegedly fired his gun indiscriminately.

"Ayon sa aming pag-iimbestiga, lasing po siya. At nakantsawan po ng kanyang mga kaibigan at nagpaputok po doon sa barangay,” Pasay City Police chief Police Colonel Joselito de Sesto said.

(According to our investigation, he was drunk. And he got into a fight with his friends and opened fire in the barangay.)

Police said the suspect managed to flee after the initial incident but was later tracked down, leading to the encounter in Barangay 62.

Investigators said the suspect may have been intoxicated at the time of the shooting.

When police responded to the report, the suspect reportedly shot a police officer, hitting him in the left shoulder.

The injured officer was rushed to Pasay City General Hospital and is now in stable condition.

Authorities revealed that the suspect had a prior record, including involvement in a shooting incident in 2023 that was later settled and a robbery case in Cavite.

He had reportedly been released from jail three months ago.

Police maintained that officers only returned fire in self-defense.

The identity of the suspect has been determined and his family has been notified about his passing. —Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
