Manila’s Beata Bridge to undergo repair following theft, accidents — DPWH

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday said the Beata Bridge in Pandacan, Manila, would be repaired following reports of stolen steel barriers and accidents.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon personally inspected the bridge and vowed immediate strengthening and repair of the railings.

“Aksyunan namin ito (We will take action on this),” he said.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno joined the DPWH chief during the inspection.

According to the Manila Public Information Office, several steel railings on the bridge had either gone missing or been allegedly stolen.

Insufficient lighting and the absence of warning signs were also identified as factors contributing to the frequent accidents in the area.

Moreno appealed to the DPWH to immediately address the situation.

In response, Dizon said the agency would have the remaining steel railings welded in place to prevent theft.

He also ordered the installation of reflectorized paint, additional lighting, and warning signs to improve visibility, particularly at night.

The DPWH has yet to announce a timeline for the project. —VBL, GMA News
