BGC rider in viral road rage screwdriver attack arrested — SPD

A 48-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attacked two men with a screwdriver during a road rage incident in Taguig City that went viral on social media, the Southern Police District (SPD) said Friday.

In a statement, the SPD said the incident occurred at around 4 p.m. Thursday, May 7, along Kalayaan Avenue corner 8th Avenue in Barangay Fort Bonifacio.

Police identified the suspect as alias "Sherwin," who is now facing two counts of frustrated homicide under Article 249 of the Revised Penal Code.

Initial investigation showed that the confrontation started after the suspect allegedly made an obscene hand gesture toward the victims while traversing 8th Avenue amid heavy traffic.

Authorities said the situation escalated after both parties stopped at a traffic light.

The suspect allegedly took a screwdriver from his motorcycle compartment and attacked the two victims, causing injuries, before attempting to flee on foot.

Personnel from the Taguig City Police Sub-Station 1 responded after witnesses sought police assistance, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspect.

Videos of the altercation later circulated on social media, prompting further investigation by authorities. Police said they are reviewing viral videos and other evidence as part of the ongoing probe. — VDV, GMA News
