The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Thursday that the collection of terminal fees for public utility vehicle (PUV) operators using the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) will be suspended for three months.

About P5 million could be saved by PUV operators due to the initiative, which will begin on May 18, 2026, the DOTr said in a statement.

The free terminal fees at the PITX covers provincial buses, city buses, modern public utility jeepneys (PUJs), traditional PUJs, UV Express vehicles, and taxis.

Based on the PITX terminal fee matrix, provincial buses pay at least P100 for every onboarding, while UV Express units pay P20.

Meanwhile, modern PUJs, traditional PUJs, and taxis pay P10 terminal fee.

The three-month moratorium on terminal fees collection could be extended depending on the DOTr’s assessment.

The Transportation Department said the initiative is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ease the burden of motorists and commuters amid the rising fuel costs due to the Middle East petroleum crisis.

“Ang kabilin-bilinan sa atin ng Pangulo, patuloy nating tulungan ang ating mga kasamahang PUV operator at driver. Itong inisyatibong ito ay malaking tulong sa kanila dahil makakatipid sila sa terminal fees na pwede nilang gamiting pangkarga ng krudo o gamitin sa ano mang gastusin nila," said Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez.

(The President’s directive was to ensure continued support for PUV operators and drivers. This initiative would be a big help for them as they will save on paying terminal fees which they can use to augment their fuel expenses or any other expenses.) —Ted Cordero/RF, GMA News
