LTO summons driver of bus that rammed into EDSA concrete barriers in QC
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the driver of a public utility bus (PUB) that crashed into 12 concrete barriers along the EDSA Carousel Lane in Quezon City.
In a statement, the LTO said the incident happened at 8 a.m. of May 19 near the southbound portion of the EDSA Kamuning Station.
According to reports, the bus driver allegedly lost control and slammed into concrete barriers in the area. The impact caused the barriers to fall to the side and even hit a private vehicle.
The agency required the registered owner, operator, and the driver of the PUB to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on May 29 at 10 a.m.
They should explain why they should not be held liable for administrative cases of employing a reckless, insolent, discourteous, or arrogant driver.
The driver may be accountable for reckless driving and for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The bus was placed under an LTO alarm while the bus driver’s license will be preventively suspended for 90 days.
“Mahigpit ang direktiba ng ating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na tiyakin ang kaligtasan ng publiko sa mga kalsada. Kaya’t sinisiguro natin na may pananagutan ang sinumang mapapatunayang nagpabaya o nagdulot ng panganib sa ating mga kababayan,” said LTO chief and Transportation Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao.

Should the respondents fail to submit a sworn explanation, the LTO will decide on the case based on the evidence at hand. — JMA, GMA News
