Man pretending to have information on Bato Dela Rosa arrested by the NBI
A man was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday after pretending to have information on the whereabouts of Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court.
According to a report by John Consulta on “24 Oras,” the man was cornered by the authorities in his condominium unit in Novaliches, Quezon City, and they found out that using other people’s identities has been the modus operandi of the suspect.
“Nagpapanggap po siya na different government official, from congressmen up to senators hanggang sa president po,” an NBI agent said.
“There's a coordination from the presidential security… command natin together with our OTCD to apprehend this person who represents himself na kunwari siya ang secretary ng isang departamento, kunwari siya si first lady,” NBI Director Melvin Matibag added.
The man was finally apprehended after he claimed to have information on dela Rosa.
“Pinadalhan ko ng certain amount, maliit lang talaga na amount, nung pinadalhan ko na siya, sumusunod na humihingi na ulit ng amount,” Matibag said, explaining how he sensed that the man was a scammer.
When asked about his boss, the suspect answered: “Hindi naman high-ranking na pulis.”
Authorities allegedly found illegal drugs in the man’s possession.
The suspect is facing an estafa complaint in relation to Republic Act No. 1175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act. —Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/GMA News
