Female jogger hit by 18-year-old driver in Antipolo City
A female jogger was hit by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) driven by an 18-year-old male in Antipolo City.
According to a report by EJ Gomez on "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, the MPV reportedly swerved into the opposite lane before hitting the victim. CCTV footage showed the vehicle continuing to move as if nothing had happened.
The white MPV was later seen driving with a damaged wheel, while other motorists sounded their horns in an attempt to stop it.
When the vehicle eventually stopped, a pickup driver confronted the MPV driver. However, two of his companions reportedly fled the scene.
“We had a hard time talking to the driver because he was drunk. I cuffed him so he couldn’t run,” said Arman Valencia, barangay public safety officer (BPSO) of Barangay Dela Paz.
The barangay said the driver failed to present a valid driver’s license. Witnesses also claimed the MPV was moving erratically and had earlier hit a parked motorcycle and tricycle.
Barangay responders assisted the 26-year-old victim and brought her to a hospital.
“She was lying on the ground, shaking,” Valencia added.
The victim is suspected to have sustained a fracture on her left arm and hand.
Authorities said they are still coordinating with both the victim and the suspect for their statements.
Meanwhile, the driver has reportedly committed to shoulder the cost of damage to the motorcycle and tricycle, as well as the victim’s medical expenses.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA News
