Four suspects linked to a viral attempted carnapping and robbery incident in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan have been arrested, the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) said Monday.

HPG director Police Brigadier General Rommel Batangan said the suspects were apprehended following a law enforcement operation and intelligence-gathering efforts conducted by the unit.

“Matagumpay na naaresto ng Bulacan Provincial Highway Patrol team ang apat na suspek na sangkot sa viral attempted carnapping at robbery incident na nangyari sa San Jose del Monte, Bulacan,” he said at a press briefing.

According to the HPG, the suspects allegedly posed as buyers of a motorcycle and went to the victim’s residence.

Investigators said the suspects attempted to take the motorcycle and other personal belongings through intimidation using a firearm.

The carnapping attempt, however, was foiled after the victim was able to seek assistance from his companions, prompting the suspects to flee.

Batangan said authorities later tracked down and arrested the suspects in Tondo, Manila on June 4.

Complaints have already been filed before the Office of the City Prosecutor of San Jose del Monte City for violation of the Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 in relation to attempted carnapping and robbery with intimidation. —RF, GMA News
