A motorcycle rider was robbed and stabbed with an ice pick by his passenger in Caloocan City last Tuesday.

According to Gabriel Gonzales’ report in “Saksi” on Wednesday, at around 1:30 Tuesday morning, a motorcycle taxi rider dropped off a passenger at Kaunlaran Village, Barangay 20, Caloocan City.

The passenger then stabbed the 46-year-old victim on his side and immediately fled with the victim’s motorcycle.

Witnesses tried to help the victim, but the suspect threatened them.

“We chased him, but the suspect told me, ‘I’ll shoot you.’ I said, ‘Go ahead, shoot,’ and then he suddenly got on the motorcycle and sped away,” one of the witnesses said.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but eventually died.

Hours after the incident, the suspect stole a cellphone in Malabon. The suspect tried to escape but residents chased him and ganged up on him.

The authorities were able to retrieve the ice pick allegedly used in stabbing the motorcycle taxi rider and the victim’s motorcycle.

The 43-year-old suspect is allegedly notorious for stealing motorcycles from motorcycle taxi riders.

“He usually operates late at night or in the early morning, robbing anyone he spots on the street and stealing their motorcycle,” said Malabon Police chief P/Colonel Kenneth Mission.

The suspect is currently detained at the Malabon City Police Station and will face charges for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, robbery, and homicide.

The suspect said he did not intend to kill the motorcycle rider.

“I did not mean to do it. I’m sorry,” he said. But the victim’s family is seeking justice following the crime.

“He has a child, a 3-year-old. We cannot forgive him,” said Nancy Norberte, the victim’s sister. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA News
