Woman chased after jeep, gets run over by truck along Osmeña Highway in Manila
A woman met with a tragic accident on Osmeña Highway in Manila after chasing after a jeepney early Thursday, which resulted to her in being hit and pinned under a truck.
According to Bea Pinlac's report in "24 Oras," the passenger jeepney sped across the highway just past 2 a.m. this morning. One man can be seen successfully catching up and boarding the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the woman who was following closely behind the man failed to catch the jeepney and was hit by a truck. The victim ended up trapped underneath the vehicle before being left sprawled on the pavement, while the truck sped away from the scene.
The 28-year-old woman sustained injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
According to the police investigation, authorities discovered that the victim’s group had allegedly targeted and harassed the jeepney driver.
"His vehicle was targeted while it was stopped. Out of fear, he sped off in his jeep even though the traffic light was still red. The victim chased after the jeep to board it and join her group, but on Osmeña Highway, the light was green for the truck — so the truck kept driving straight and failed to notice her," said Manila Police District spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines.
Police are still hunting down the truck driver, who may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries.
The jeepney driver has also lodged a complaint against two 18-year-old men identified as alleged members of the victim’s group.
"They are being accused of physical assault against the jeepney driver and his companion, and will be facing charges of physical injuries," said Ines.
