Slain vlogger Mima Alicia leaves behind 4-year-old child; supporters mourn

Vlogger Alicia “Mima Alicia” Lipata leaves behind a four-year-old child following her murder on July 17, according to her family. At her wake, her supporters gathered to pay their respects.

“Nakikiramay po ako sa pamilya ni Mima Alicia. Fans po niya ako, bilib po ako sa kaniya,” said Danilo Dizon, a supporter, in a “24 Oras” report by Jun Veneracion on Monday.

(I offer my deepest condolences to Mima Alicia's family. I am a fan of hers, and I really admired her.)

“Panawagan ko kung sino ka mang pumatay o nag-utos, kung meron man, e sana po matakot tayo sa Diyos, makusensya kayo, sumuko kayo,” he added.

(My appeal to whoever killed her or ordered it, if there is indeed a mastermind, is that you should fear God. Let your conscience guide you and surrender.)

A supporter described Lipata’s death as sudden and said that she was a good person.

“Kaibigan po e. Nabigla kami e ang bait bait po niya,” said Vicky Dizon, another supporter.

(She was a friend. We were shocked because she was such a good person.)

Lipata was shot by "riding-in-tandem" suspects in front of her house in Caloocan City. She died on the spot, while her live-in partner, who was with her during the incident, was injured.

Pre-killing threats, bad breakup

The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that Lipata had already been receiving threats prior to her killing.

“Meron po threat na talaga sa kaniya and it was proven to be correct, ‘di ba? Ito na nga may nangyari na sa kaniya at we’re still looking into kung ano ‘yung threat na pinanggalingan,” PNP Public Information Officer and spokesperson Allan Rae Co said in a press briefing.

(She really had an existing threat against her, and it was proven to be correct, right? Now that something has happened to her, we’re still looking into where that threat originated.)

Investigators are also looking into whether her bad breakup with an ex-partner could be the motive for her killing.

“Merong kauting nagreklamo sa kanila nung nag-breakup na sila and there were some, even some cases filed between the two of them so kaya lang po natin sila tinitignan.”

(There were some complaints between them when they broke up, and there were even some cases filed between the two of them, which is why we are looking into that angle.)

According to Co, another possible motive for Lipata’s murder is her work as a pro-administration content creator.

“Isa rin pong malaking tsansa is ‘yung her work.. Related to being a vlogger,” Co said.

Authorities are still investigating to identify the two suspects in Lipata’s murder.
