Angat Dam water level keeps falling despite rains; lower water pressure possible

The water level at the Angat Dam – Metro Manila's primary source of water – continued to go down despite the heavy rains of the past several days.

“Mas marami po tayo nakokonsumo kaysa yung pumapasok, kaya po bumababa yung elevation ng dams natin kahit na umuulan,” PAGASA hydro forecaster Edgar Dela Cruz said in Raffy Tima's report on "24 Oras."

(There is more consumption than what is coming in, that is why the elevation of the dams is declining despite the rain.)

Manila Water said that it was possible for water pressure to lower across several areas.

“This is to distribute the water evenly to all the customers despite the declining level of the dam,” Manila Water Corporate Communications Department Head Ditti Galang said in a mix of English and Filipino.

Despite the lower water pressure, services will still run 24/7. Galang said that for areas with water interruptions, this was likely due to maintenance work rather than lowered water pressure.

Maynilad will also implement lower water pressure in their areas as a response to the declining dam levels. The water firm asked customers to conserve water.

However, the weekend is expected to bring heavy rains. Dela Cruz said that this should raise dam levels once more. –Jean Mangaluz/NB, GMA News
