LOOK: Caskets found in different parts of Metro Manila

Authorities are looking into the appearance of at least five caskets left along roads in different parts of Metro Manila early Friday morning.

The caskets were reported in Quezon City, Caloocan, Makati, and Manila.

“Initial investigation conducted reveals that 5 caskets were intentionally abandoned in Sta Cruz, Manila; Brgy. 54, Caloocan City; Brgy. South Triangle, Quezon City; Brgy. Sta. Teresita, Quezon City; and Gil Puyat, Makati City,” the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said in a statement.

In Quezon City, a casket containing photos of two individuals was found at the Boy Scout Circle along Timog Avenue at around 3 a.m.

Barangay officials said two men and a woman aboard a white van allegedly left the casket at the site. The casket was removed shortly after 3 a.m., according to GMA News' Jhomer Apresto.

“The caskets were deliberately abandoned by perpetrators wearing masks on board white and gray vans at around 2:00 to 4:00 o’clock in the morning of August 7, 2026,” the NCRPO said.

A similar casket was also spotted by a netizen along Rizal Avenue Extension in Caloocan City around 2 a.m.

Another casket with the same appearance was later reported along Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City at around 4 a.m., based on photos shared by a netizen.

Bomb squad personnel were seen inspecting the casket found in the area, according to GMA News' Bam Alegre.

Meanwhile, netizens also reported a fourth casket in Sta Cruz, Manila.

“These caskets contained anti-CPP-NPA and anti-China messages,” the NCRPO said.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered a comprehensive probe to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the incidents.

“NCRPO investigators are now on the ground conducting thorough backtracking and forward tracking of CCTV footages,” the NCRPO said.

“This cowardly act will not be left unpunished. NCRPO will ensure that the identity of those who are behind these acts will be uncovered and criminal cases will be filed upon completion of the investigation,” it added. —AOL/ VAL, GMA News
