BI arrests 6 foreigners working illegally in Binondo

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Friday it arrested six foreign nationals for allegedly working illegally at commercial establishments in Binondo, Manila.

In a press release, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said an enforcement operation targeting illegal foreign workers was conducted at a “popular shopping mall in Binondo” on July 29.

The apprehended individuals were allegedly found engaging in retail activities in violation of the conditions of their stay and the Retail Trade Act.

Authorities are also investigating the identities and citizenship of two of the individuals who claimed to be Filipino citizens.

The BI said charges for violations of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940, as amended, will be filed against the six foreign nationals.

Viado warned foreign nationals against engaging in activities not permitted under their visas.

“The Philippines welcomes law-abiding visitors and investors, but those who disregard our laws should expect swift enforcement and eventual removal from the country,” he said. —VBL, GMA News
