2 CIW officers relieved amid probe over PDLs' trust fund

Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. has ordered the relief of two commissioned officers from the Corrections Institution for Women (CIW) amid an investigation into alleged anomalies involving the trust fund of persons deprived of liberty (PDL).

According to Catapang, there are alleged missing funds amounting to P6 million.

“We need to get to the bottom of this and hold those accountable in their proper place,” Catapang said in a statement.

“Masakit sa kalolooban ko na pilit nating inaayos ang BuCor tapos yung mismong tao natin ang maiinvolved sa katiwalian, kaya’t gusto kong maimbestigahang mabuti ito para malaman natin kung kailan at sinu-sino ang dapat managot,” he added.

(It pains me that we are trying hard to reform BuCor, yet our own people are involved in corruption, so I want this to be thoroughly investigated so we can determine when it happened and who should be held accountable.)

According to BuCor, the relieved officers report to the Office of the Deputy Director General for Administration (DDGA) at the National Headquarters in Muntinlupa City.

BuCor said the PDL Trust Fund Officer has been absent without leave since July 29.

Meanwhile, Catapang said BuCor has requested the assistance of the Muntinlupa Police Station in locating the trust fund officer.

Reception and Diagnostic Center Director CT/SINSP Lariza Martin has been designated as the Acting Superintendent of CIW, according to BuCor. — BAP, GMA News
