Police officer, security guard nabbed for allegedly assaulting another cop
A police officer and security guard were arrested after they allegedly assaulted another cop in a supermarket in Quezon City.
In a report from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Wednesday, the alleged assault took place on Tuesday in a supermarket along Quirino Highway, Barangay Baesa, Quezon City.
The victim was an officer from the QCPD who had been prevented from leaving an establishment despite providing a receipt to the security guard, who was given the alias “Mida”.
Despite the victim identifying himself as a police officer, Mida still called alias “Rey”, an active police officer who was in the area.
“The police officer allegedly intervened, pointed his firearm at the victim, forcibly pulled him back inside, and struck him with the firearm, causing injuries. The security guard allegedly assisted in restraining the victim,” the QCPD wrote in a Facebook post.
The responding police officers reviewed the CCTV footage of the incident, which led to the arrest of the two suspects. The gun, ammunition, handcuffs, and other items were recovered for documentation and investigation.
Rey now faces charges of grave threats, physical injury and grave coercion, while Mida faces a charge of grave coercion.
The QCPD said the police officer also faces the appropriate administrative case should he be found liable. The Department also reminded all personnel to exercise restraint and uphold professionalism.
“No one is above the law. We remain steadfast in upholding the rule of law, accountability, and professionalism, and we will not tolerate any act of misconduct, violence, or abuse of authority within the police service,” PBGEN Randy Silvio said in a statement. — BAP, GMA News
