Dead body found in Pasay City in vicinity of Senate premises

A man believed to be between 60 and 65 years old was found dead along Libertad Channel, around 400 to 500 meters from the Senate premises in Pasay City on Thursday morning, according to the police.

At a press briefing, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Police Colonel Allan Rae Co said the deceased man was known in the area by the alias “Tropa.”

“Meron din po natagpuan na yumaong tao sa may labas, but this is actually malayo-layo po ito sa Senate premises, around 400 to 500 meters away within the area,” Co said.

(A deceased person was also found outside, but this was actually quite a distance from the Senate premises—about 400 to 500 meters away within the area.)

Initial police investigation showed that witnesses saw the man vomiting blood around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Witnesses reportedly offered him food, but he refused and instead chose to lie down and sleep.

At around 6:00 to 6:30 a.m. Thursday, the man was found unresponsive.

In a separate statement, the Southern Police District (SPD) said the unidentified man was found along Libertad Channel corner Diokno Boulevard in Barangay 76.

He was described as around 5’5” to 5’7” tall, with a fair complexion and slim build. He was wearing green jersey shorts and a green long-sleeved shirt.

Medical examination

Police said there were no apparent external signs of injury on his body.

“Ang tinitignan po talaga is he died of natural causes,” Co said, but he noted that the man will still undergo proper medical examination to determine the exact cause of death.

(We are looking at possible natural causes as the cause of his death.)

The SPD said the Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO) team processed and examined the area following the incident.

The remains were brought to Veronica Funeral Homes for safekeeping and proper disposition.

Police are still working to establish the man's identity and determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

The SPD appealed to anyone who may know the deceased or have information that could help confirm his identity to coordinate with the Pasay City Police Station.

Authorities also urged the public to refrain from making speculations while the probe is ongoing. —VAL, GMA News
