Navotas pumping stations helped ease flooding — DPWH
Pumping stations in Navotas City helped ease flooding caused by heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Tuesday.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon said six pumps at a pumping station in the city have been repaired, while three more are expected to become operational in the coming weeks.
The Navotas City government and the DPWH inspected the pumping station on Tuesday amid persistent rains in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
According to Bam Alegre’s report, authorities found that the pumping station helped reduce flooding in the area, with the local government unit (LGU) saying floodwaters in some areas remained at ankle level.
Dizon first visited the area in November 2025 following a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to address flooding in Navotas.
Meanwhile, classes in several areas of the country were suspended on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, due to inclement weather brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and the threat of flooding.— MCG, GMA News
