DILG knew where Sara was on Friday night but didn't force warrant of arrest

The Department of the Interior and Local Government knew where Vice President Sara Duterte was on Friday night but didn't serve the warrant of arrest against her for grave threats, Interior Secretary Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla said on Saturday.

Remulla said this on Saturday, hours after Duterte posted bail at the Quezon City Hall of Justice, where she said she didn't trust the court and the police.

Duterte said she had also documented threats against her life since 2023.

"It's very unfortunate that all the pressure in her life is affecting her perception. The PNP accorded her all the respect her position deserves," Remulla said in a statement.

"We have all the body cam footage of her warrants being served. We have all the body cam footage of her arrival to post bail. We knew of her whereabouts the night before, but we did not force the warrant of arrest," he added.

Duterte posted a P360,000 bail for three counts of grave threats allegedly made against President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former speaker Martin Romualdez.

The vice president said she preferred civilian protection, wanting to remain in the public eye.

For its part, the PNP said it has taken note of the concerns raised by the vice president, vowing that it would monitor the situation.

"To date, however, the Vice President has not reported to the PNP any threat to her life or to the safety of her family, including the threats she said date back to 2023. Likewise, the PNP has not monitored any verified threat against the Vice President or her family," the PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.

While she was outside the hall of justice, Duterte said that she has been receiving threats since 2023, the year she broke away from the administration. However, she did not provide further details.

Nartatez also said the police provided security to Duterte when she posted bail. She was able to safely arrive and leave the court.

"The PNP remains open to receiving any document, report, or statement concerning the reported threats," Nartatez said. — VDV/NB, GMA News
