'Red notice' request vs Zaldy Co to be followed up in France — Jonvic Remulla

The Philippine government will follow up its request for an Interpol red notice against former party-list lawmaker Zaldy Co in France, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Tuesday.

“We are filing a red notice for Zaldy Co again. Coincidentally, I will also be going to Lyon, France to follow up on his red notice with Interpol,” Remulla said at a press conference.

“So, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin ‘Boying’ Remulla announced yesterday that he is also going to Paris to talk to the authorities there. I will work with Interpol. He will work on diplomatic efforts to get Zaldy Co,” he added.

According to Interpol, a red notice is a request to law enforcement authorities worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

The individuals are wanted by the requesting member country or international tribunal. Member countries apply their own laws in deciding whether to arrest a person.

Remulla made the statement after authorities placed former House Speaker and Leyte 1st Dist. Rep. Martin Romualdez under custody following the service of his arrest warrant at a private hospital in San Juan City on Monday.

The Sandiganbayan Third Division on Monday issued warrants of arrest for Romualdez, Co, and their two co-accused in the plunder case filed against them by the Ombudsman in connection with alleged anomalies in flood control projects.

In April, Co was held at an immigration detention facility in Prague after reportedly being classified as an undocumented foreign national. He was later released.

In May, Co was reportedly staying at a house along the Champs-Élysées in Paris.— MCG, GMA News
