Manibela to hold transport strike on Sept. 14, 2026 amid rising fuel prices

Transport group Manibela on Thursday announced that it will hold a nationwide transport strike on Monday, September 14 due to the rising fuel prices.

"Nationwide transport strike September 14, 2026! Dahil sa taas presyo ng krudo at gasolina dahil inutil ang DOE!" the group said in a Facebook post.

Firms this week hiked prices per liter of gasoline by P4.69, diesel by P5.18, and kerosene by P5.58.

The Department of Energy explained that the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran have resulted in the fuel price increases. It added that the weakening of the Philippine peso against the American dollar was also a factor.

While the week is not yet over, pump prices of petroleum products are expected to rise for the second straight week next Tuesday, based on movements in global prices.

According to an oil industry source, gasoline prices could rise by P2.00 to P4.00 per liter, and diesel by P3.00 to P5.00 per liter, based on the average Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) and foreign exchange trading from September 7 to September 9. — BM, GMA News
