Sandiganbayan commits Martin Romualdez to QC jail

The Sandiganbayan has committed former Speaker Martin Romualdez, who is accused of plunder related to P7.2 billion in alleged kickbacks, to the male dormitory of the Quezon City Jail.

In its order dated September 14, the Third Division also set his arraignment on Wednesday, September 16.

"Accordingly, the court commits to the Quezon City Jail - Male Dormitory the living person of accused Romualdez, who is charged for the crime of plunder, to be held therein as a detention prisoner and as such, the accused shall not be moved, removed, transferred, and/or otherwise be released therefrom unless ordered by the court," the court said.

"The parties are reminded that the arraignment and pre-trial of this case as to accused Romualdez is set on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 8:30 in the morning," it added.

Martin Romualdez respects transfer to QC jail, maintains innocence

Leyte Representative and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Monday said he respected the Sandiganbayan’s order to transfer him to the Quezon City Jail, but maintained that he is innocent.

“I have always said that I will face the charges against me and answer them before the proper court. That has not changed,” Romualdez said in a statement.

“I maintain my innocence. Haharapin ko ang kaso. Sasagutin ko ang mga paratang,” he added.

(I maintain my innocence. I will face the case. I will answer the allegations.)

Sandiganbayan orders Martin Romualdez transfer to QC Jail

The Sandiganbayan on Monday ordered Leyte Representative and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez to be transferred to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory, according to Maki Pulido.

This came after a Philippine General Hospital (PGH) team found that he was clinically stable and could now be discharged.

No need to keep Romualdez confined to hospital— PGH director

The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Monday found that there is no need to keep Leyte Representative and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez confined to the hospital.

Dr. Gerardo "Gap" D. Legaspi said that Romualdez is deemed clinically stable.

The PGH said that though his identified conditions need monitoring and treatment, confinement is not necessary, provided that medical care is assured.

PGH: Martin Romualdez not confined in 'presidential suite'

The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Monday clarified that Leyte Representative and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez is not confined in a “presidential suite".

PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario said there is no such accommodation at the hospital.

“He is not confined in a presidential suite. Wala po kaming ganoon (We do not have such a room),” Del Rosario said in a message to GMA News.

He also said that Romualdez is not confined in a psychiatry ward.
