Marcos wants anti-political dynasty bill passed during his term

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. wants the anti-political dynasty bill passed within his term, according to Malacañang on Thursday.

The Supreme Court (SC) has directed Congress to enact the measure after 39 years of failing to do so. The 1987 Constitution mandates that Congress enacts a measure against political dynasties.

“Wala pa pong binabanggit na desisyon ang Supreme Court, alam na po natin na ito po ang isa sa mga priority bills ng Pangulo. Talagang ito po ay pinapamadali niya at gusto po niya hangga’t maaari sa panahon po niya ay maipasa ang anti-political dynasty law,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a media briefing.

(Even without the Supreme Court saying its decision, we know that this is one of the President’s priority bills. He is really rushing this and he wants that, as much as possible, that the anti-political dynasty law is passed during his time.)

Marcos agreed with the SC that it was time to enact a law against political dynasties, Castro said.

Castro said that Congress will decide the pace at which it passes the law but said that it was understandable that they had a lot of other pertinent work to do.

“Pero still, lumabas naman din po ang desisyon ng Supreme Court, alam din po nila, gusto din po naman nila na magkaroon po talaga ng anti-political dynasty law,” Castro said.
