Who is Sebastian 'Baste' Duterte?

Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, brother of Vice President Sara Duterte, is set to testify in the impeachment trial on Tuesday.

Baste Duterte, the third among four Duterte children of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, earlier said that GenCorp. Industries Inc. won its Davao city contracts worth over P34 million above board, and he was unaware of his sister’s share in GenCorp.

"In every instance, GenCorp. was rigorously evaluated and determined to have submitted the lowest calculated responsive bid or offer. Most importantly, in compliance with government procurement laws and administrative issuances, all 19 transactions have been duly processed, reported, and published on the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) portal," he said.

"Any interested party seeking to verify the city's transactions with GenCorp. or any other entity, is invited to review the official PhilGEPS website or coordinate with their office for authorized record access," he added.

He was elected the Davao City Mayor in the 2022 elections.

Mayor Duterte was reelected to his post in the May 2025 election or two months after his father, former president Duterte, was arrested by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in March 2025 over alleged crimes against humanity stemming from drug war deaths during his father’s presidency. —VAL, GMA News
