Sandro Marcos confirms transfer to Lakas-CMD
House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos of Ilocos Norte has confirmed that he has joined Lakas-CMD.
In an interview with local media, Marcos said he jumped ship from his father’s political party, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, to Lakas-CMD to fill in Lakas-CMD’s leadership void.
Congressman Marcos’ uncle, former Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, is the Lakas-CMD president but is in detention due to a pending P7.4 billion plunder scam due to his alleged involvement in the flood control scam.
“It was simple. I met with the Speaker [Bojie Dy of Isabela] and he noticed na ang Lakas ngayon, walang ulo. No one is leading Lakas. The Speaker told me that PFP members are already well taken care of in the sense that the President, the Speaker, Senior Deputy Speaker and almost all House leaders are with PFP,” Marcos said in an interview with local media in Ilocos Norte.
Lakas-CMD is the biggest political party in the House of Representatives with at least 70 members.
“The Speaker told me that it would be better for me to transfer to Lakas so the Lakas members in the House will have someone to talk to over their concerns, because the PFP already have the Speaker in their ranks. They (Lakas members) [as it is] did not have anyone to go to within the party that had a leadership position influential enough to be able to help with their districts and constituencies,” Marcos added.
Congressman Marcos is the son of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
“This is an administrative matter so that the members of Lakas don’t feel lost,” Marcos said. —VAL, GMA News
