PNP now on full alert for Undas 2026

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed all its units nationwide on full alert status starting Friday as authorities prepare for expected influx of people visiting cemeteries and traveling during Undas 2026.

PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Lieutenant General Wilson Lopez said around 141,000 personnel from the PNP and augmentation forces have been deployed to secure the occasion.

“Kaninang madaling araw (Early morning), all PNP units nationwide are placed on full alert status from today up to November 3,” Lopez said at a press briefing.

“A total of approximately 141,000 personnel from the PNP and other augment forces. Our force multipliers have been deployed to ensure a safe, peaceful and orderly observance of the Undas,” he added.

In Metro Manila, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano said around 25,000 personnel would be available.

Of this number, around 7,000 personnel will be deployed to priority areas, including cemeteries, roads and transportation hubs.

Abrahano said police are also monitoring residential areas and commercial establishments to prevent crimes such as burglaries while residents are away visiting their departed loved ones.

“Ang focus natin, hindi lang doon sa sementeryo, dapat sa kanilang bahay, considered yun. Yung pupuntahan nila, pagkatapos ng pagpunta nila sa sementeryo, yung restaurants, babantayan din yun. Basically, it's a holistic approach,” he said.

(Our focus is not just on the cemetery, it should also be on their homes, that's considered. Where they go, after they go to the cemetery, the restaurants, that will also be monitored. Basically, it's a holistic approach.)

The NCRPO recorded approximately 1.8 million cemetery visitors during Undas last year.

As of the latest report on Friday, more than 1,000 people had already visited the Manila North Cemetery.

Abrahano said regular police patrols, crime prevention activities, and anti-criminality operations would continue alongside the Undas security deployment.

Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to ensure a peaceful observance of Undas 2026. —VAL, GMA News
