PH eyes more BrahMos missile units from India, submits wish list — Teodoro
The Philippines shared a wish list as it plans to acquire additional units of the BrahMos missile system from India, according to Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.
At the 3rd Delhi Defence Dialogue via video teleconference on Wednesday, Teodoro said the Philippines wants to increase the number of BrahMos units it has acquired from India.
"We hope to increase the number of BrahMos units we have, and we have shared also a wish list on the BrahMos to the Indian authorities in order to make it more tailor-fitted for the Philippine environment," he said.
Teodoro cited logistical challenges in operating and transporting the missile system in the Philippines, including the country's less durable roads and bridges and the absence of an active railroad.
He also pointed out the difficulty of transporting military equipment across the country's more than 7,600 islands.
The Philippines became the first foreign country to acquire the BrahMos missile system from India.
Teodoro said the acquisition is a significant demonstration of India's trust and confidence in the Philippines. According to him, Indian authorities had determined that the country would use the capability responsibly and only for defensive purposes consistent with international law.
In August 2025, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said the Philippines is in the process of procuring more BrahMos missiles.
In April 2024, the Indian government confirmed that the first batch of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles was successfully delivered to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Teodoro identified other potential areas of defense cooperation between the Philippines and Indi including space technology, ground-based air defense systems, multiple-launch rocket systems, and satellite acquisition for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
He said Marcos had instructed to pursue an AFP satellite acquisition program with India seen as a potential partner. — RSJ, GMA News
