Inmate killed, another wounded in Manila City Jail riot

MANILA, Philippines – One inmate was killed and another was wounded when they were shot in a riot at the Manila City Jail in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on Saturday afternoon. According to unconfirmed and sketchy reports, the Commando Gang and Bahala na Gang started the riot at about 3:20 p.m. After the riot ended, at about 4 p.m., two prisoners fell to the floor bloodied. Slain was Eduardo Mandap, 28, a resident Raxabago Street in Tondo, Manila. He died on arrival at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC) with a gunshot wound near the nape. Wounded was Joey Saclao, 44, a resident of Mapia Street also in Tondo. He was taken to the same hospital with a gunshot wound in the stomach. According to security guard Ronald Orocio, four jail guards took the two victims to the hospital. Sources at the Manila City Jail said that visiting hours was still going on when a noise suddenly erupted. As of this posting police has not established whether the two victims belong to either Commando Gang of the Bahala na Gang.
