Alleged rebels torch Globe cellsite in Puerto Galera

Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels burned another cellsite of Globe Telecom, this time near the popular beaches of Puerto Galera in Mindoro Oriental, GMA 7’s DZBB reported Wednesday. Armed men reportedly stormed the communications tower near the popular White Beach tourist haven. Onduty security guards were surprised when they were approached by an unidentified suspect, who said he just wanted to have a closer look at the facility. The suspect’s companions suddenly pounced upon the guards, then proceeded to set the cellsite on fire. The tower reportedly suffered “partial damage." Authorities have ordered increased police visibility in Puerto Galera’s entry and exit points. Local and international tourist visits in Puerto Galera’s beaches are normally high during the summer months starting March until May. Alleged rebels destroyed a Globe cellsite in Masbate about two weeks ago. The suspects hurled improvised explosives at the tower.-GMANews.TV
