Palace announces new appointments to govt posts

MANILA, Philippines - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo appointed Renato V. Diaz as member of the Civil Aeronautics Board and Geronimo L. Sy as assistant secretary of the Department of Justice. Four others were appointed to various government posts. The new appointments were announced by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita at his weekly press briefing in Malacanang Wednesday. “Diaz is my former colleague in Congress and was appointed by the President as member of the Civil Aeronautics Board under the Department of Transportation and Communications," Ermita said. Prior to his appointment to the CAB, Diaz was Presidential Adviser for North Luzon. Sy, a prosecutor at the DOJ, started his legal career with the Justice department in 1999. He obtained his law degree from the Ateneo Law School, and passed the bar examination in 1995. Ermita said the four other new appointees are Bai Omera Dinalan-Lucman as member of the Board of Trustees, representing the Women Sector, of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration; Emmanuel A. Mahipus as executive director, and Robert B. Albano as regional director, respectively, of the Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board; and Raymundo Agravante as regional director for the Department of Labor and Employment. “Their appointment papers were signed by the President on Sept. 24, 2008 and they will immediately take their office as soon as they receive their respective appointment" papers, Ermita said. - OPS/GMANews.TV
