MANILA, Philippines - Armed Forces chief Gen. Alexander Yano on Monday paid tribute to wounded soldiers by giving them bagfuls of grocery items and cellphone cards worth P300. Yano personally gave the items during his visit at the Heroes Ward of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center along V. Luna road in Quezon City. Most of the injured soldiers were from Mindanao, where the military is pursuing three Moro rebel leaders who led attacks on civilian communities in Lanao del Norte, North Cotabato and Sarangani last August. “We have some groceries and goodies for your and of course P300 cell cards which you can use in contacting your loved ones… At least, that’s your contact to the outside world from V. Luna,” Yano told the soldiers. “We know that you have sacrificed in the frontlines before coming over and our fellow soldiers are continue their sacrifice as our operations and campaign against the lawless (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) groups (in Mindanao) and in other areas against the other threats like the communist terrorist movement all over the country,” he said. Last Friday, Yano also visited the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division in Maguindanao to pay tribute to the injured soldiers confined at the camp’s hospital. - GMANews.TV
