PNP chief orders ‘purging’ of logistics system

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Jesus Verzosa on Monday ordered the ‘cleansing’ of the supply system of the organization following the arrest of a utility worker from Camp Crame who is allegedly involved in selling “unserviceable firearms.” Verzosa said the PNP is now studying measures on how to streamline and improve the operations of the Logistics Support Service, the operating arm of the Directorate for Logistics. “We are already initiating reforms in supply systems. We’re purging it of personnel who might be involved in several anomalies,” he said in a statement. Verzosa said that all supply systems in the PNP will be reviewed to make sure that their operations are transparents and in compliance with existing policies. Last week, joint operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philppines busted a group involved in gunrunning activities. Arrested was Reynaldo Victorino de Jesus, a utility worker at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame. Seized from the suspect was a cache of firearms, including pistols and high-powered guns. Others who remain at large were Romulo B. Tuscano, Manuel P. Revecho, Bobby Suarez and a certain Nelia Palomaria. The five were charged with violating Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294 (illegal manufacture, possession, distribution, and sale of firearms and ammunition). - GMANews.TV
