500 cops to secure Sto. Niño feast day revelry in Tondo

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila Police District (MPD) will deploy 500 policemen to secure the Sto. Niño feast day celebrations in Tondo on Sunday, MPD head Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales said Thursday. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo quoted Rosales as saying they will also deploy 40 roving patrol teams that will monitor the area during the feast as well as three Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams. Rosales had earlier said police will crack down on residents who engage in drinking sprees and block the streets during the feast to prevent violent incidences. For its part, the Philippine Coast Guard said it will inspect sea vessels in Manila that will take part in the fluvial parade. - Johanna Camille Sisante, GMANews.TV
