MANILA, Philippines - Senator Rodolfo Biazon on Monday warned against over-reading and over-reacting on the presence of a Chinese patrol ship deployed to a disputed part of the Spratly Islands. "I caution the Philippines from over-reading or over-reacting to the Chinese action of sending a ship as reported in the media. Over-reacting to the situation may just result to heightened tension when the reason for such action does not really exist," Biazon said in a press conference. The senator said the dispatch of a patrol ship in the South China Sea may not be directly related to China’s protest against the Philippine’s baselines law. He said if there is a relationship between the Chinese naval presence and the Chinese protest against the baselines law, the examination of the mutual defense treaty and the Visiting Forces Agreement comes into focus. - Amita Legaspi, GMANews.TV
