MMDA: Number coding in effect Tuesday, Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines - The number coding scheme, regulating operation of vehicles in Metro Manila, will remain in effect on Holy Tuesday and Holy Wednesday. Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Roberto Nacianceno said on Friday that the scheme would only be lifted during the Holy Week on Monday, Thursday, and Friday, which had been declared as holidays. "Kagaya [ng] Monday, it was declared a holiday, so wala tayong number conding, and Thursday and Friday, dahil kasama 'yan sa holiday, kung walang pasok on Thursday and Friday, then wala tayong number coding. Pero Tuesday and Wednesday [meron]," Nacianceno said over radio dzXL. [Monday was declared a holiday so there is no number coding. So are Thursday and Friday. But we will have number coding on Tuesday and Wednesday.] Monday was declared a holiday to mark Araw ng Kagitingan [Day of Valor], which falls on April 9, Maundy Thursday. When asked if there would be any chance for the MMDA to lift the number coding on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nacianceno said: "Not unless magkaroon ng announcement si chairman [not unless MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando announces otherwise]." - GMANews.TV
