'Gorio' moves away from RP; 2 areas under signal 1

MANILA, Philippines - Only two areas remained under storm signal no. 1 as tropical depression "Gorio" moved away from Philippine territory Friday morning. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said "Gorio" may move out of Philippine territory as early as Friday afternoon. "Baka ngayong hapon lumabas na ito ng Philippine area of responsibility (It may move out of the Philippine area of responsibility Friday afternoon)," Pagasa weather bureau head Nathaniel Cruz said in an interview on dzBB radio. In its 11 a.m. advisory, Pagasa said that as of 10 a.m., "Gorio" was 110 km northwest of Laoag City with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center. Pagasa said "Gorio" was moving northwest at 22 kph and is expected to be 680 km west of Basco, Batanes Saturday morning. Areas remaining under storm signal no. 1 are Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. Earlier in the day, Pagasa said there were nine areas under storm signal no. 1.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said "Gorio" is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over the western section of Luzon and Western Visayas. It advised residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes to take all the necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides. - GMANews.TV
