A barge stationed at the Pasig River rammed into a house on Sunday after it was carried by strong currents caused by typhoon âPepeng." No one was reported injured even as the barge called Matimbang damaged almost half of the house owned by one Jesus Quiazon in 2105 Martinez Street in the city's Sta. Ana. district, according to Superintendent Ricardo Layug, commander of the Manila Police District-Station 6. Layug said the barge was one of the four that were swept away by the river's strong current. âDahil daw po sa lakas ng current ng water, natanggal yung pinaka-barge. Naputol yung lubid nitong nasa unahang barge kaya natangay ng agos yung apat na barges," he said. (Because of the water current, the rigging of the main barge was loosened, so all four barges were taken away by the current.)

The four barges were docked at the Pasig River behind the Alchemco Philippines soap factory on Lamayan St. The other three barges - RLC 107, RLC 103, and Napindan - had drifted close to Quiazonâs house. Layug said they are determining the owner of the barge so that a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property may be filed against him or her. The police had already coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for the removal of the barge. - with Sophia Dedace, GMANews.TV
