(Update) 'Queenie' leaves RP: 1 dead, 10 injured
Typhoon Queenie (international codename: Chebi) left Philippine territory Sunday night, but left a trail of at least one person dead, 10 others injured and 21,250 persons displaced in three provinces. As of 10 p.m. Sunday, the state weather bureau said Queenie was 510 km west southwest of Iba, Zambales, with maximum sustained winds of 100 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 130 kph. It was moving west at 30 kph and is due to be 900 km west of Iba, Zambales, or in the vicinity of East Vietnam Monday evening. According to the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC), the 3,958 families affected by Queenie were from 38 villages in seven towns and a city in the provinces of Isabela, Aurora and Nueva Ecija. In its report as of Sunday night, the 10 persons reported injured were all from Casiguran town in Aurora, where Queenie made landfall last Saturday. At least 1,676 houses were damaged, 228 of them totally, in Dipaculao, Casiguran, and in Dinalungan town in Aurora province. Strong winds from the typhoon also wrecked at least eight fishing boats in San Ildefonso, Casiguran and Dipaculao, Aurora. Several road arteries were rendered impassable, including: ⢠The road from Baler, Aurora, to Dinapigue, Isabela, where landslides had occurred. ⢠The Aritao-Quirino Road (Bitnog Section), which was closed to traffic due to series of landslides and the washed out Antutot Bailey Bridge I. ⢠Baler-Casiguran Road (Km 343+000 to Km 344+000 Barangay Dibacong), temporarily closed due to fallen electric posts and trees. ⢠Baler-Casiguran Road along Barangay Amper, Barangay Ditale, Barangay Dinutunan, Barangay Borlongan and Barangay Diarabasin â not passable to all types of vehicles due to washed-out box culvert approaches. ⢠Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road (Cabatangan River) not passable to all types of vehicles due to washedâout Timber Bridge. ⢠Nueva Ecija-Baler-Bongabon Road, Brgy. Labi â closed to all types of vehicles due to poor road condition. ⢠Arnedo Dike (along Apalit, San Simon, San Luis and Candaba, all in Pampanga) â sandbagging work ongoing as water elevation is above normal. The NDCC also reported that low-lying areas of Isabela and the lower main Cagayan River areas are still under threat of flooding. "Further, there is a slow rise of water at Cagayan River-Buntun, Tuguegarao City gauging station," it said. -GMANews.TV
