More than 120 passengers were stranded as two Japan-bound flights from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were cancelled due to a powerful quake that hit Japan on Friday. A radio report said the two flights of Japan Airlines and the Philippine Airlines did not push though after the Narita International Airport in Japan was closed. Another report on dzRH radio said the canceled flights for Friday included Japan Air Lines flights 746 and 742; and Philippine Airlines PR-432. One of the flights was supposed to leave the NAIA Terminal 1 at 2:50 p.m. but airport officials said the departure might be reset to 9 a.m. Saturday. The report said that passengers of the two flights – mostly composed of Japanese nationals – were seen calling from their mobile phones, obviously worried about their relatives in Japan.—Mark D.
